Evaluations of
Multi-Session
As with any viable intervention effort,
an evaluation component is critical in helping to determine the
degree of success obtained in meeting the program's goals. Since its
beginning in 1990, Wise Guys has used an evaluation instrument
designed to measure changes in three major areas: knowledge,
attitude, and behavior. In all three areas, program participants
have achieved and maintained positive changes. Participants are
tested at three times: program entry, program exit, and six months
after program exit. Current evaluation models include a randomized
control group design.
Knowledge items include reproductive
anatomy, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and
contraception. Attitude items include expectations for male
adolescent sexual activity, respect for women, and dating violence.
Behavior items measure delay of onset of sexual activity
(abstinence). For those students who are already sexually active at
program entry and do not choose abstinence, rate of correct,
consistent contraception use. Behavior also measures increases in
communication with parents or guardians about sexuality, and
increases in communication with school staff about sexuality.
Currently, evaluation results are
compiled by Philliber Research Associates of Accord, New York, and
by the Department of Public Health at the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro. Most recent evaluation results are being
compiled and will be reported soon. Watch this site for updates, or

if you would like results when they become available.
